چکیده

Applications in high speed ATM networks will specify quality of service (QoS) requirements on an end-to-end basis. Typical application QoS metrics are cell loss rate, delay jitter, throughput, and maximum delay. Obviously, the individual network control components will need to provide more stringent quality of service than speciied by the application. In this paper, we study (via simulation) how end-to-end QoS parameters provided by the application can be mapped into the QoS numbers used by the individual network control components.

87-01-45.1 Control of Wide Area Networks

Local area networks (LANs) have become commonplace in most medium and large companies. Now, wide area networks (WANs) have become the next communications frontier. However, WANs are much more complicated than LANs. In most WAN environments, the more devices an individual has to manage, the more time-consuming is the process of monitoring those devices. Complexity also increases very rapidly due...

Towards Integrating Wireless LANs with Wireless WANs using Mobile-IP

To allow a seamless integration between wireless LANs and Wireless WANs, we developed a full stack adaptation model and a simple subnet architecture that superimposes Mobile-IP on cellular-type wireless LANs. The idea is to use Mobile IP as an integrative layer atop different LAN/WAN networks. While Mobile-IP is widely used in wireless WANs, it is not known how well it performs under a wireless...

Advances in Wireless Local Area Networks

Wi-Fi applications have blossomed tremendously over the last few years. What started out as cable replacement for static desktops in indoor networks has been extended to fully mobile broadband applications involving wide-area outdoor community networks, moving vehicles, high-speed trains, and even airplanes. Wi-Fi data rates have also continued to increase from 2 to 54 Mbit/s with current 802.1...

Interconnection of Large-Scale LANs Via a Two-Stage Switching HUB for Multimedia Applications

As broadband multimedia applications to the desk top are becoming popular toduy, the high-speed bandwidth demand from a single user will occupy large shares of the LAN's channel capacity. Therefore, the evolution of LAN technologies hiis shifted from shared to dedicated circumstunces. More and more LANs are installed in the enterprise and campus. Interconnection of the large number of LANs will...

A new SDN-based framework for wireless local area networks

Nowadays wireless networks are becoming important in personal and public communication andgrowing very rapidly. Similarly, Software Dened Network (SDN) is an emerging approach to over-come challenges of traditional networks. In this paper, a new SDN-based framework is proposedto ne-grained control of 802.11 Wireless LANs. This work describes the benets of programmableAcc...
